On Sunday, November 29, two elderly ladies were killed in an accident with a semi in Thomasville.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of the US Highway 84 Bypass and Georgia Highway 3 which is also known as U.S. Highway 319. A semi tractor trailer being driven by 54 year old Paul Jones and traveling east on the US Highway 84 Bypass failed to stop at a red light. He then hit a Kia Forte which was traveling north on Georgia Highway 3 occupied by 81 year old Everette Pollack and 84 year old Jo Ann Tuvell. Both ladies died at the scene.
According to investigators, Jones was distracted as he was trying to remove a headset for his cell phone when he drove through the light and smashed into the car.
Charges against Jones are pending once the investigation has been completed.
